The Rummel's ice cream fan club

Seems this book's site now serves a dual purpose as I am beginning to receive emails for the Rummel family which I am happy to forward. I'm purely a chocolate fan myself, but long live Brand X!

More emails from old camp friends and alums who can't believe the Green Truck was still around in my day (though I believe it was retired after the carbon monoxide incident).

A memoir writing instructor has asked me to substitute for her one day in September. Fortunately, I've actually read the books already. I plan to donate the fee to the South Los Angeles shelter where I volunteer on Sundays. I just adopted a kitten a few weeks ago. He loves my cat and chases her around; she hates him. It's like living in a Pepe le Pew cartoon...

Phone Calls and Emails

Just as I'd hoped, I'm starting to get phone calls and emails from camp friends I haven't seen in years and everyone seems pleased to be a part of the anecdotes and photos.

Best of all, I heard from someone I never even knew existed, Whit Rummel, son of the owners of Rummel's ice cream in Waterville.

He wrote:

"Hi Mindy -

Here I am at your website after idly Googling 'Rummel's Waterville.' Apparently one of your fans mentioned it in an e-mail to you.

My mother and father (Whit and Ann Rummel) owned the place from the mid-forties to the early seventies. I just spoke to my mother (well into her nineties now) who still lives in Waterville and she wistfully asked if I thought anyone still remembered the place. I told her I'd find out... and here I am at your website! Small world, isn't it? Thanks for mentioning Rummel's in your work. I'm looking forward to reading what you said about it. Hope it's not all bad. ;-)

Warm regards,
Whit (the younger) Rummel"

I assured Whit the memories were all good.

Hope to hear from others...
