Phone Calls and Emails

Just as I'd hoped, I'm starting to get phone calls and emails from camp friends I haven't seen in years and everyone seems pleased to be a part of the anecdotes and photos.

Best of all, I heard from someone I never even knew existed, Whit Rummel, son of the owners of Rummel's ice cream in Waterville.

He wrote:

"Hi Mindy -

Here I am at your website after idly Googling 'Rummel's Waterville.' Apparently one of your fans mentioned it in an e-mail to you.

My mother and father (Whit and Ann Rummel) owned the place from the mid-forties to the early seventies. I just spoke to my mother (well into her nineties now) who still lives in Waterville and she wistfully asked if I thought anyone still remembered the place. I told her I'd find out... and here I am at your website! Small world, isn't it? Thanks for mentioning Rummel's in your work. I'm looking forward to reading what you said about it. Hope it's not all bad. ;-)

Warm regards,
Whit (the younger) Rummel"

I assured Whit the memories were all good.

Hope to hear from others...

Vacationing up in Maine for the first time in 35 years -- last time, I was a CIT at Camp Laurel. Wanted to see if Rummel's was still here so I could visit. SO sorry to learn that a piece of my childhood is gone, but such is progress...
